Privacy
Short version: what you copy goes straight from your Mac to your own Telegram group and never through our server. Our server only knows who you are, whether you’ve bought Copy2Phone, which Macs you use it on, and simple counts of how the app is used.
What you copy never reaches us
Text, pictures and files you send go from your Mac straight to Telegram, through Telegram’s Bot API and your own bot, and on to your phone, tablet or other device. They never pass through a server of ours. We never see what you send, its file names, your bot token, your chat or your group’s name. Messages are then kept in your Telegram group like any other Telegram chat, under Telegram’s privacy policy. You can delete them in Telegram at any time.
What our server keeps
| What | Details | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Your account | From “Sign in with Google”: your Google account id, name, email address and profile picture. Also when you joined, when you were last active, and how many times you’ve signed in. | So your trial and your purchase follow you, not your Mac. |
| Your trial | When your 7-day trial started and when it ends. Also when you finished setup and when you first sent something. | To unlock the app, and to see whether setup is too hard. |
| Your purchase | Whether you’ve bought Copy2Phone, when, and how (card checkout, direct payment or promo code). | To unlock the app. |
| Promo codes | You type a code in the app. We keep which account redeemed which code, and when. Each code works a set number of times, and each account can use a code once. Failed tries are counted for an hour, to stop guessing. | To unlock the app and stop codes being reused. |
| Card payments | Checkout is run by Polar, which sells Copy2Phone on our behalf (merchant of record). When an order is paid or refunded, Polar tells our server: we keep the order number, the amount and currency, whether it was paid or refunded, and the email you used at checkout. We never see your card details. | To know who has paid, and for refunds. |
| Direct payments | If you pay us directly (for example a Wise or MariBank transfer), we note the method, amount, currency, date and a short note by hand. | To unlock the app, and for our records. |
| Your Macs | For each Mac you sign in on: its name as set in macOS (like “Ana’s MacBook Air”), the Mac type (like “MacBookAir”), the Copy2Phone and macOS versions, and when it was first and last used. Each Mac is told apart by a random id the app makes, not taken from the hardware. Its sign-in key is stored only as a one-way hash. | One purchase covers all your Macs; a removed Mac is signed out. |
| Country | The country your connection comes from (two letters, like “PH”), worked out by our host from your internet address. We don’t keep the address itself. | To know where Copy2Phone is used. |
| Usage events | Short, fixed messages from the app, listed below, each with the time, your Mac’s random id and the country. Never content. | To see whether setup and sending work, and to fix errors. |
The usage events, exactly
The app keeps these on your Mac and sends them in small batches, at most every 15 minutes, only while you’re signed in. Our server throws away any event or detail that isn’t on this list.
| Event | What it includes |
|---|---|
app_opened | appVersion, macos (version numbers), locale (language setting, like en_PH), model (Mac type, like “MacBookAir”, never a serial number) |
signed_insigned_out | Nothing else |
trial_expired | Nothing else |
setup_step | step: bot_connected, group_found, topics_created or topics_reused |
sent | kind (text, image, file or video), ok (worked or not), size (under 100 KB, 1 MB, 10 MB or 50 MB), via (shortcut or button), count (how many items) |
send_failed | kind, and reason: too_big, no_internet, telegram_error, not_set_up, folder or unreadable |
settings_changed | setting (shortcut, sound, banner, banner_position or launch_at_login) and its new value (like “⌃⌥P”, “top”, on or off) |
paywall_shownbuy_clickedpromo_enteredpromo_ok | Nothing else |
promo_failed | reason: invalid_code, code_used_up, code_expired, already_paid, rate_limited or network |
licence_enteredlicence_oklicence_failed | Nothing else (only sent by early test builds) |
daily_active | Nothing else (once a day while the app runs, to count daily users) |
update_checked | how: manual or auto |
updated | from_version (the version you updated from) |
Our server also records these about your account itself (the app can’t send them):
| Event | What it means |
|---|---|
signed_up | Your first sign-in ever |
session_started | A Mac finished signing in: appVersion, macos, and whether it’s a new Mac |
trial_started | Your 7-day trial began (at your first Mac sign-in) |
paid | How you unlocked Copy2Phone: via polar, manual (with the method: wise, maribank or other) or promo (with the code) |
refundedpaid_revoked | A refund, or a payment we undid |
trial_extended | We gave you extra trial days (how many) |
device_removed | A Mac was removed from your account |
There are no third-party analytics or advertising tools in the app. Usage events are deleted after about 13 months.
Who sees it
Only the owner of Copy2Phone, on a private admin page. The owner also gets short private notifications in Telegram when someone signs up, finishes setup, sends for the first time, has a trial ending, buys, redeems a promo code or gets a refund. These show your name, email and country, never anything you copied. We don’t sell your data or share it with anyone else.
What stays on your Mac
- Your bot token, in your Mac’s Keychain (the same place macOS keeps your passwords).
- Your sign-in: a key for this Mac, also in the Keychain.
- Your settings (shortcut, sound, banner, topic names, which group to use), in
~/Library/Application Support/Copy2Phone/. - A list of your last 30 sends (a short preview and the topic it went to), in the same folder, so the menu can show your recent sends. This list never leaves your Mac.
- Usage events waiting to be sent, in the same folder.
Copy2Phone reads your clipboard when you press the shortcut or click Send, and shows a short preview of it while its menu is open. It doesn’t keep a clipboard history beyond the list above.
Once a day the app also checks this website for a new version. That’s an ordinary download of the update list; it doesn’t send anything about you.
Who else is involved
- Google, for signing in (we ask only for your name, email and picture).
- Polar (polar.sh), for card checkout, as merchant of record.
- Cloudflare, which hosts this website, our server and its database.
- Telegram, which carries what you send from your Mac to your devices, and the owner’s private notifications.
Removing everything
- From your Mac: in Copy2Phone, open Settings → General → “Uninstall Copy2Phone…”. It signs this Mac out, deletes your bot token and sign-in from the Keychain, removes its settings, send history, caches and the open-at-login entry, then moves the app to the Trash.
- One Mac from your account: sign out in Copy2Phone. That removes this Mac from our server.
- Your bot: send
/deletebotto @BotFather in Telegram. Delete the group there too if you like. - Your account: email gabrieldominicoxibillo@gmail.com from the address you sign in with, and we’ll delete your account and what our server keeps about you. We may keep payment records where the law requires it.
